व्याख्या – मनरूपी दर्पण में शब्द–स्पर्श–रूप–रस–गन्धरूपी विषयों की पाँच पतवाली जो काई (मैल) चढ़ी हुई है वह साधारण रज से साफ होने वाली नहीं है। अतः इसे स्वच्छ करने के लिये ‘श्रीगुरु चरन सरोज रज’ की आवश्यकता पड़ती है। साक्षात् भगवान् शंकर ही यहाँ गुरु–स्वरूप में वर्णित हैं–‘गुरुं शङ्कररूपिणम् ।‘ भगवान् शंकर की कृपा से ही रघुवर के सुयश का वर्णन करना सम्भव है।
